Event: Ball and Blaze - March Madness: Smoke and Steam

Today I am covering an industry event that happened last weekend called Ball and Blaze.
Ball and Blaze is a March Madness themed event, with both basketball & doink rolling competitions (hence the name Ball AND Blaze).

This year, it was held at The Schvitz, in Detroit.
Being a private event, you need an invite to get in. The best way to do that, is know one of the brands participating/sponsoring in the event!

Ball and Blaze
Ball & Blaze March Madness Event Invite Only Saturday March 30th 2024 at the legendary @theschvitz Detroit. Their recently renovated second floor will host our canna friendly event and half court basketball setup.
MI Canna Brands: Bring your 3 person team to compete in our Mini Basketball Tournament. 3 events will go down; Lightning, 3 Point Contest and Slam Dunk Competition. The Champions will win a fully customized jersey from @renzo.cardoni to display at your facility!
METRC certified flower brands can also submit their Doinks to be judged and crowned best Doink in the League. 4 awards will be given.
Bring your swim suits to take a steam and cold plunge after the sesh. Food and drinks will be provided.

Basketball Tournament
You may have heard we have an event coming up this weekend, Saturday Evening (6:30-11:30). We have 3 major features; Basketball Skillz Tournament, Doink Off and Schvitz Amenities. We have had many questions about each of these features so first up let’s talk Basketball.
The Basketball Tournament is for our Sponsors who have signed up to participate. They are bringing their 3 best players to compete. 3 events will be played and will be reffed by our friends @comeplaydetroit Please be kind and respectful to their team.
Lightning will begin at 8:00pm. Each of the team’s 3 players will play. Player 1s will all play against #1s. Then all 2s will play and then 3s. Top 4 players from each heat will then lineup to compete in the Lightening Finals.
3-Point Contest will begin at 9:00pm. 1 player from each team will compete. Their other 2 players will assist with rebounding. 5 spots will be pre selected and 5 shots from 5 spots will used (Some spots may not be true 3-point distance due to court sizing restrictions of the event space). 70 seconds will be put on the clock and the team who sinks the most baskets will win the 3-Point Competition.
Dunk Contest will begin at 10:00pm. The rims will be lowered to 8ft. 1 player from each team will be chosen to participate. Each team will get 3 attempts to make their dunk within 60 seconds. 3 judges will rate dunks on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best. Teams will have the option to use mini balls to dunk with. Rims and backboard will be regulation size. Props and other team mates can be utilized.
If a team wins multiple events then they will be crowned overall champions and will win the fully customized @renzo.cardoni jersey for their company. If there are different teams who win each event then there will be a tiebreak announced at the event. 1 player from eaxh team will compete for the ultimate glory.
A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door, first come first serve. No purchase necessary, 21+ only.

Rolling Competition
Our second feature is the doink contest to see who has the best doinks in the MI market. 2g hand rolled joints will be judged by a panel of cannabis legends and notorious joint smokers. Who could it be??
Awards will be given for: Smokability, Best Looking, Best Tasting and @slimwiththepackk Slim’s Choice. Awards will presented for the Doink Contest and Basketball events at 11pm Saturday Night @ballandblaze
Experience
The Schvitz was a cool little venue for this type of event.
You entered the building and were greeted with some free event branded swag after showing your ticket.
From there, you see a basketball court, with brand tables scattered where the bleechers would typically be.
- There was a dab bar.
- There were people hand rolling joints THE whole event.
- Free beverages
- Food truck outside (not free)
- Swag
While you mingled with brand representatives at their booths, a basketball tournament was happening around you.
It was a vibe seeing people ball out while you’re puffing a joint in the cloud filled, historic spa setting.
Downstairs, there was a chill smoke section if you wanted to be more lowkey and escape the party upstairs.
Outside was a Fun Food Express food truck, serving up cheesesteaks & deep fried Oreos.
I got to talk with Voyage Bloom, Known, Hytek, Tip Top Crop, MI Loud Flower, DogHouse Farms, Premier Cannabis Farms, & more.
Everyone was having a great time and the night flew by!
