Gassiest of 2023 Awards - Best Metro Detroit Dispensary
By Gas & Middies
Let’s be real, to write this site, I have to visit quite a few dispensaries in my surrounding area of Metro Detroit.
No one dispenary carries EVERY cannabis product in Michigan. You have to really shop the menus to figure out what they carry and what constitutes a good deal.
I obviously couldn’t review most or even a good portion of the dispensaries in Michigan, but I wanted to highlight my favorites that I frequent in the Metro Detroit area.
The Detroit Metro consists of Detroit and the surounding suburbs.
These include:
- Hazel Park
- Ferndale
- Madison Heights
- Berkley
- Southfield
- Centerline
There are many more, but these are the ones I frequent in the area.
If you want to smoke the best of the best and get good deals, you have to travel around. These are my favorite dispensary picks if you’re in the area.
Drumroll please 🥁
Best Metro Detroit Dispensary
Honorable Mention: Butter - Berkley
- Address: 2222 W Eleven Mile Rd, Berkley, MI 48072
- Website
Butter are the new kids on the block in Berkley.
Ann Arbor is home to their flagship store and Berkley marks their first expansion.
They are a dispensary, who also grow their own Butter branded flower.
To be honest, it’s not my favorite flower, but they do have a few keeper strains (lookout for a review in the future!).
Where they shine is their deli section, fair pre-pack prices, & rosin selection.
In terms of deli, they carry: Butter, Pro Gro, Ghostbudsters Farm, Primo Danks, Premier Cannabis Farms, Wyse Guys Farms, Peachy Hash & Co. & more.
Pre-packs of: Exotic Matter, Michigander Fire, Ghostbudsters Farm, Premier Cannabis Farms, Fear of Boof, Peninsula Gardens, Seed Junky & more.
With rosin they have: Ice Kream Hash Co., Peachy Hash & Co., Eastside Alchemy, The Fifth Age, Lightsky Farms, & 710 Labs.
They also have their Brick Rewards program, where you get bricks (points) for each purchase. They also send coupons, for example for 35% off your purchase, that use zero bricks.
As an added bonus, in January as a loyalty member, you get a free eighth with each purchase. Up to once per day.
With fair pricing and even better deals with their coupons and Brick Rewards, Butter is a deal lover’s dispensary.
I look forward to seeing how they do in 2024.
Honorable Mention: Quality Roots - Berkley
- Address: 3916 W Eleven Mile Rd, Berkley, MI 48072
- Website
Quality Roots is all about taking advantage of their deals.
Their standard prices are nothing to write home about.
However, they are always doing “buy 2 or 3 and get a % off” deals which are worth stopping in for.
For instance, they price Seed Junky typically at $40, but frequently do Buy 2, Get 1 Free deals on them. That prices them at a more reasonable $26.60 per eighth.
They also keep some harder to find pre-packs in stock.
Like: Growing Pains, BowHouse, Exotic Matter, Gus’s Real Exotics, Seed Junky, Tip Top Crop & others.
The store normally isn’t too crowded. The budtenders are pretty chill and not pushy.
I find it is typically easier to browse their product in store then place my order at the in-store kiosks. By the time you get in line, your order is typically ready to go.
Overall, I recommend Quality Roots for certain brands if they’re running a deal.
3rd Place: Shango - Hazel Park
- Address: 22821 S Chrysler Dr, Hazel Park, MI 48030
- Website
Shango deli is where it is at!
I turn to Shango to get deli style flower that is harder to find at other dispensaries.
For example they carry: Peninsula Gardens, Lightsky Farms, Old School Organics, Grown Rogue, & Freshy Fine in their deli jars.
An eighth of the good stuff will set you back between $17.50 up to 24.50 for their top tier.
Shango is the place where I can get Lightsky Farms or Peninsula Gardens flower as huge nugs at around $20 an eighth.
You can also stock up on Fatty’s, their white label brand for deli style, smalls, & prerolls.
They have also started to carry their own Shango branded flower as well. I honestly haven’t tried it yet and can’t speak to it.
While it can get busy at times they have friendly budtenders to compensate for wait times.
Shango as well as their deli is always worth taking a look at.
2nd Place: Puff - Madison Heights
- Address: 2 Ajax Dr, Madison Heights, MI 48071
- Website
Puff is like the Walmart of cannabis in Michigan.
They have the largest selection of product that I’ve seen in the state.
If you like Local Grove, this (along with King of Budz) is the spot to shop!
With a large deli section, as well as a massive pre-pack section, you’ll have your pick in terms of flower.
For deli they carry: BowHouse, Local Grove, Pro Gro, Cheech’s Stash, Cheef, Glorious Cannabis Co., Willie’s Reserve & more.
While the prices on their deli isn’t the best, they make up for it in variety.
They also have one of the most varied concentrate selections available in one place.
The downsides being that Puff is constantly busy and likes to blare music, making it hard to hear.
Because of this, your experience can feel frustrating and rushed at times.
Puff to me is a lot like going to Costco. It’s a great place to buy in bulk and get good deals, but you have to brave the crowds to get them.
1st Place: King of Budz - Ferndale
- Address: 1300 E 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220
- Website
King of Budz are the kings of deli in Metro Detroit!
With their flagship store in Detroit, the King of Budz Ferndale location opened as the first location in the suburbs, earlier this year.
From their Grand Opening to now, the people of Metro Detroit know this is the spot to get the widest selection of fresh, deli flower.
Carrying brands such as Local Grove, Hytek, Ghostbudsters Farm, Pro Gro, Mitten Canna Co., Freshy Fine, Grown Rogue, Franklin Fields, MJ Verdant & more.
They tier their deli flower. The most expensive is typically the Local Grove “exotic” shelf which tops out at $35 an eighth. But you can find 🔥 for under $20 consistently.
They are no slouch in terms of pre-packs either. They carry Local Grove, Clout King, Pressure Pack, Peninsula Gardens, Death Row Cannabis, Fear of Boof, Ghostbudsters Farm, Broke Boyz, Terpenstein & more.
For rosin, they have some of the best prices on Ice Kream Hash Co. rosin at $30. They also keep a fridge full of 710 Labs.
Speaking of fridges, they keep all of their concentrates frigid in fridges, until you purchase them.
They don’t have a ton of deals but King of Budz seems to undercut all of their competition in prices. Pre-packs I see in other places are almost always at least $5 cheaper here.
All this comes together to make King of Budz my pick for the Best Dispensary in Metro Detroit.
