Review: Clout King - Wagyu Cloutlettes (Smalls)
By Gas & Middies
Today we are reviewing a fancy, meaty strain: Wagyu, grown by Clout King.
Purchased at Rush Cannabis for $70/quarter ($35/eighth).
Clout King
“Friends don’t let friends smoke mids.”
Clout King is a multi-state operator (MSO) that originated in California.
There is a good YouTube interview from Cannabis Talk 101 with Clout King’s CEO. In addition, there is an article written by Pleasantrees about some of their involvement with the brand in Michigan.
Here is the TLDR:
The President & Founder is Isaiah Dawid who sometimes goes by the pseudonym: “Z”.
He grew up in Santa Cruz, California and started cultivating in 2007.
The brand origin story starts with the founder making memes about the cannabis industry on Instagram.
Making a name (and following) trolling other cannabis brands (as a cultivator himself).
Clout King was created almost antagonisticly against the brands he trolled on Instagram with memes.
Example meme post from the Clout King Instagram account trolling the Cookies & Seed Junk beef.
After perfecting their craft in California they branched out to Washington then Michigan.
“If it’s not perfect, it doesn’t go in my bag” - Z
Pleasantrees is another MSO operating in Michigan, who currently holds the license to cultivate Clout King in Michigan.
Isaiah actually worked as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Pleasantrees (who have the license to grow Clout King in Michigan) for 16 months.
During that time he established a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the grow amd brought one of his best growers with him to help supervise.
Focusing on the quality control of the trimming & curing processes.
The brand’s trademark strain is: Terdz. Another antagontistic jab at growers growing actual poop weed. 💩
“What if we added a Z to the name Terdz and contradicted that name so much.” “It’s a ‘fuck you’ to corporate cannabis.” - Z
Playing against customer expecations is a theme in the Clout King story.
If a consumer purchases a top-shelf product and you deliver top-shelf, you have that customer forever. If a consumer purchases a top-shelf product and receives anything other than top-shelf, you’ve lost that customer forever.
More about Clout King’s grow from their website:

Cloutlettes (Smalls)
Clout King is in the premium price bracket. I’ve seen their regular bags selling anywhere from $50-$70.
However, Clout King offers their smalls dubbed Cloutlettes for a significant price break.
You can get them as cheap as $35 an eighth (up to 50% off). They also offer Cloutlettes in quarter sizes.
If you want to dip your toes into Clout King flower, this is where I suggest you start.
The nugs are small but typically fresh and squishy.
I think the sacrifice in bag appeal is worth the discount.

To start, there is way more candy taste than anything else.
The Lemon Cherry Terdz really presents itself first in the taste. The Meat Breath added a nice welcome gassiness.
To two combined to create one of my favorite flavor profiles: gassy candy.
The nugs were squishy and fresh. Small but hearty.
Clout King typically likes to take their signature strain: Terdz (Lemon Cherry in this case) and remix it with new crosses.
Which seems to be working in their case…
This one is ALL sizzle and ALL steak:

Outro
Clout King is a brand with an interesting history.
Almost a counter-culture movement in the cannabis industry. But when a counter-culture becomes mainstream enough, it begins to become to culture it started out rebelling against.
With their price point, they are in an interesting space. They are more expensive than a lot of great products, yet cheaper than the top of the price point stuff like Fear of Boof & Doja.
We’ll see how that goes for them in the longrun.
What do you guys think?
What is your favorite Clout King product?
