Gassiest of 2023 Awards - Best Flower Brand
By Gas & Middies
If you’re shopping for flower in Michigan, you’ll have your pick from hundreds of brands. But it can be a bit overwhelming.
Sifting through the brands, like the strains themselves, is sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack.
In terms of being the best flower brand, for me, it’s all about consistency.
Which brand can I buy a random pack from the shelf, and it will be consistently fire.
I narrowed down these picks by tallying up the brands with the highest number of what I’d dub: gas.
Counting only strains that were availble in 2023 and that I actually smoked.
What I was left with, are the brands who drop consistent 🔥.
Drumroll please 🥁
Best Flower Brand
Honorable Mention: Grown Rogue
- Website
- Strains to try:
- Blue Runtz
- Rotten Citrus
- Pink Lady
You’ve seen Grown Rogue on the Gassiest of 2023 - Best Budget Flower Brand awards. So you know they produce great budget flower.
But don’t let the price fool you. Grown Rogue grows flower that can compete with the flashiest mylars.
Take their Blue Runtz. These beautiful blue nugs are bursting with blue rasperry flavor.
I’ve probably had an ounce of this strain over the year and it’s hella consistent. Whether deli or pre-pack.
Aside from their Blue Runtz, this year they grew a lot of seeds from Offensive Selections.
They grew their famed Sourdough #1 as well as Hellcat, Pink Lady, GPII (Gary Patyon 2), & Rotten Citrus which are all crosses of their Sourdough #1.
The Sourdough #1 is amazing by itself and each of these crosses, brings an intersting twist to the strain. I highly recommend the Rotten Citrus & the Pink Lady.
Grown Rogue grows strains true to their genetics at reasonable prices.
It’s no suprise they are one of the top flower brands in the state.
Honorable Mention: Seed Junky Genetics
It’s been a hell of a year for Seed Junky and JBeezy. Breeding the Strain of the Year this year with their Permanent Marker as well as switching producers for their Michigan flower.
You may have had Seed Junky in the past, but if you haven’t in awhile, it’d recommend you give the brand another try.
Seed Junky has switched producers now to Wildfire Investments, LCC from their previous growers. And let’s just say, they have really upped the quality of their product with this switcheroo.
Behind the scenes they’ve been dropping steady flames throughout the whole year.
Lookout for a future review of their Gello Shotz. This fruity, gassy gem of a strain was a mainstay in my strain rotation.
They also took their Permanent Marker and crossed it with RS-11 to create Magic Marker. Being the first of many Permanent Marker crosses we expect to see from the brand, this one was magical (pun intended).
If you’re a fan of gassy strains, Seed Junky also has their “Face” strains. Both Animal Face & Gas Face bring gas by the gallons and are sure to scratch your petrol itch.
If Permanent Marker was your favorite strain in 2023, Seed Junky will be the brand to watch in 2024!
3rd Place: Gus’s Real Exotics
- Strains to try:
- Stoned Island
- Head Hunter
- Zabibi
Gus, the dog with the dank!
Taking packaging outside-of-box even winning our Gassiest of 2023 - Best Packaging award for their Bubble Terp.
They are also marketing geniuses. Fusing together 90’s nostalgia & wacky infomercials from the past, their advertisements will have you either laughing out loud or cringing hard.
But looking away from the humorous marketing & flashy mylars, these just compliment the overall star of the show: the flower.
Stoned Island is many people’s introduction to Gus’s Real exotics. It’s a mainstay to the brand. With it’s unique terps it’s no wonder why.
The guys at Gus drop a lot of limited drops. You have to know when and where to get them.
It plays on your fear of mising out (FOMO) and has you chasing Gus packs.
Whether you’re chasing Gus packs or not, if you see the lovable dog on a pre-pack, it’s a safe bet it’s terpy!
2nd Place: Growing Pains
Growing Pains was on the Gassiest of 2023 - Most Underrated Flower Brand awards list, which I’m hoping changes this year.
Almost every drop from them is guaranteed gas.
I’d start with their Zyrup, which is true to name. With sticky, sweet candy notes, this strain doesn’t hold back on terps.
Their Citronade tastes like an orange rind. Bolo Runtz tastes like a chemical, Runtz concoction.
Every drop is tasty.
With heavy ties to the guys over at Hytek, both companies seem to be learning from each other.
With a fresh website, with tons of strain information, it’s clear they plan to ramp up marketing & advertising in the new year.
Jumping out of 2024 with an already stellar looking lineup, Growing Pains will be a contender for next year as well.
1st Place: Hytek
Hytek was on top of their game in 2023!
They are well known for their Headstash as well as their gassy, Los Muertos that they entered into the Zalympix.
Hytek’s Lemon Cherry Gelato is also some of the best in the state.
But if we talk about consistency. Hytek is king.
They ended the year strong dropping Permanent Marker, Zoap, Pink Runtz, & Gelonade.
Each of these drops were flavorful and true to the strain.
Permanent Marker & Zoap dropped in half ounce, limited edition, miron jars. These were truly something special.
The Permanent Marker in particular is one of my favorite drops of the year. I’ve tried a lot of Permanent Marker, and Hytek’s is the best rendition of it that I’ve had to date.
For a brand to have a lineup of fan-favorites as well as dropping constistent new heat, Hytek deserves the top spot.
Their tagline is “Endless Fire” and I’m hoping that continues into 2024!
