Ice Kream Hash Co. has been a brand making a lot of noise with rosin enthusiasts! With drops selling out the day they are released, the hype keeps building.

I wanted to learn more about the people behind the brand and linked up on Instagram.

I was able to get in touch with Kendra from the brand for a little interview about them.

Interview

Gas & Middies: Welcome! Can you start by telling us a little about yourself?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Nick, our Director of Processing, and myself, Kendra, put our collective heads together to help you know more about ice Kream Hash and our story. IKHCO is made up of a small team of super passionate hash heads and lovers of Cannabis in all it’s forms. We aim to cultivate amazing flower, and all things solventless- ranging from high quality rosin, full melt ice water bubble hash, hand pressed hash, and, our speciality, rosin infused pre rolls.

Gas & Middies: What makes you guys different?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Our creativity and passion for hash is probably one of the big things that makes us different from a lot of other company out there! We want to create items that are unique, delicious, and unlike anything the Michigan market is experiencing. Our mastermind in the lab is incredible and we are always making new products, half of which we are like, “but how do we get these to the market.” Like the Neapolitan. It was a wild idea and we had to jump though a lot of compliance hoops! But we love to run with the wild ideas, because weed should be fun.

Gas & Middies: Any details about your grow/lab?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We have around 3500 plants and 6 flower room. We harvest a room roughly every two week and about half of everything we chop, we take to fresh frozen to keep up with our rosin production. And we run with a tiny team! It’s all hands on deck and we all tend to wear a lot of hats. Our processing lab is also incredible in that we are able to produce so much in such a small space. We hope to be able to expand soon. The coordination and drive of our team is what makes it all possible. Our set up is fairly simple, as hash making should be. We have our hash and rosin team of 4 people to wash, press, puck and label the units. They all have a passion for hash and are so proud of what we get to put to the market! Our cultivation and processing team consists of about 20 people strong and we really make a lot happen.

Gas & Middies: Do you target taste when picking strains for your flower & concentrates?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We target taste, nose, matching terpenes, and also lineage of the plants. Sometimes we like to run with some odd pairings too! A fun strain we love to pair is the Gastropop. It has this weird grape vomit smell, but when it is mixed with a fruity strain, it helps to balance that nasty funk and create a really great pre roll. It’s all part of the fun! We like to infused certain strains on themselves as well. Like our Deadly Combination 60- we did DC 60 rosin on flower for our single scoops because then the customer gets to really smell what that plant was like when it was living with that full terp profile.

Gas & Middies: What are your top selling flower & concentrate stains/products?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Our Punch Cake rosin is a solid staple. We’ve been growing Punch Cake around here for a minute, and it’s a strain that we feel will never get old. It’s a great balanced high with nice and uplifting effects, and an incredible fruity flavor profile. As far as flower goes, we are so lucky to work with True Organics and have access to some of their house bred genetics. Double Baked Cake is a strain hunted by the True Organics team and she checks every box! The flower is beautiful; terpy, high testing, high yielding, and she’s a washer, so it’s our dream plant and one of our best selling flower. Another unforgettable couple strains would be Sunshine and Superboof. These are both amazing as flower and rosin.

Gas & Middies: Would you say you have a signature/trademark strain/flavor?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: That’s really hard to say; people know us for our sunshine #4, but we also grow a mean Superboof (it’s my personal top 3). We’ve also done quite a few collabs with True Organics and Lyra. Both are amazing no till organic growers who have a crazy array of genetics. Hong Kong Diesel, Gastropop, and Strawberry Trop all had rave reviews from our customers and ourselves. That being said though, our Director of Cultivation, Bluejay Genetics, is an incredible breeder and grower in his own right. We’ve just started washing some of his strains like the Federation Killer and Deadly Combination #60. I think we are known more for our collabs and product innovation rather than a single strain in house, which is great. Our Neapolitan is unlike anything else out there in the market.

Gas & Middies: How did you land on the whole ice cream ascetic?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Ice Kream Hash was born around the love of the creamy beauty of ice water bubble hash/rosin. And it gave us the ability to create some really fun branding and appeal to our product!

Gas & Middies: Can you explain a little about your slogan: “Solventless Scoops for All”?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We believe quality solventless products should be accessible and affordable to everyone! And the same goes for infused pre rolls. We create potent, terpy, clean, chemical and bullshit free products that are fairly priced for all consumers. We don’t gate keep; we want everyone to experience a great high without all the added fake terpenes or low quality remediated garbage in your joints.

Gas & Middies: How are you guys able to make such fire rosin at such affordable prices?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We care about our brand and the quality we put to the market. We want to live by our motto, and keep our rosin accessible and affordable for all consumers.

Gas & Middies: Why do you think most quality rosin (aside from yours) costs $50+?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Ha, they are backed by millions of dollars in marketing? We got to the market 8 years too late? We didn’t come with a big black market name? We don’t ask for $50 a gram? I don’t know why, honestly, but we are fine with it! We think what we ask for is fair. We are looking to stay in the market long term, creating long term jobs for our team and long term relationships with our customers and retailers, so we price accordingly.

Gas & Middies: Your product tends to sell out fast, how do you keep up with the current demand?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Oh man, it’s honestly getting a little crazy! We had to buy a walk in freezer. Believe it or not, all we had was 4 chest freezer up to this point! But it’s all part of the growing pains of being a new business. We’ve been worked hard to invest in the infrastructure of our company so that we can handle this kind of volume. And thankfully we have some incredible people on our team. We try to plan ahead; What we plan for today, we won’t see the fruits of our labor for 4-6 months. It’s hard to predict where the cannabis market is going to be by then. Of course, 10 months ago when we launched IKHCO, we never imagined we would be in nearly 130 stores by now! These are good problems to have! And we just keep True to our goal of putting the best product possible in the hands of our customers.

Gas & Middies: Do you recommend storing your product in the refrigerator or freezer?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: For long term storage, a freezer is preferred. We do a cold cure, so the rosin is very shelf stable. That being said, we ship everything to our retail partners on dry ice to best preserve those terps and ensure the customer is getting the best quality possible.

Gas & Middies: Do you have a preferred temperature for dabbing?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: The hotter the better ;) jkjk. Many of us like to rock a Puffco. Ideally around 450-550 degrees is ideal, never hotter than 600 degrees. Terpenes, when heated above about 700 degrees, release methacrolein, a chemical similar to the carcinogen acrolein. At about 932 degrees, the terpenes begin to release significant levels of benzene which has side effects similar to carbon monoxide; so keep em low and slow and you can’t go wrong. Nick, our Director of Processing, likes to cold start the dab and heat until you see it start to bubble, then stop. You get the best flavor and performance out of the rosin utilizing that method. In his expert opinion, if your rocking a Puff Co, you already use this method. To each their own, but educate your self and never stop learning.

Gas & Middies: Do you guys have a drop list?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We are absolutely working on it. Instagram has been blocking our posts and has been limiting us from doing any drop lists or similar content. So we actually have a hotline and we are going to start text blast for drops. I kid you not, the number is 1-800-KREAM-4-U. Customers can also hit us anytime on Instagram DM and we can let you know what stores got the latest drops. We aren’t super fancy yet with our marketing. It’s all pretty grassroots.

Gas & Middies: Your temple ball hash is pretty unique in the industry, how’d you come about doing that?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Our temple ball is our tip of the hat to like old school and European hash. We hand roll our temple balls and it takes a certain micron to create those. Not all strains drop the right size heads.

Gas & Middies: What’s the best way to consume a temple ball?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: My favorite way is to press a little hash between your fingers and place it between layers of flower in a bowl and smoke it! You can also make a little hash snake for your joints, you can smoke it in a chillum; whatever floats your boat.

Gas & Middies: You guys carry flower, rosin, hash, & preroll products. Do you plan on following the piatella hype?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Maybe? (We have some REALLY cool stuff aging in the coffers, but we aren’t ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet.)

Gas & Middies: Do you plan on ever making live resin?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Nope. We make hash ;) No offense meant by that though! We are great friends with other processors who are like mad scientists with resin. But we just want to stay in our lane and do what we are really good at. We partner up with them and make fun cool projects though!

Gas & Middies: Congrats on the Top Shelf Showdown wins! Any other trophies or medals you’re proud of?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Gosh, Top Shelf was really incredible for us! We came home with two first place trophies! We did a collab with both Ghostbudster Farms and Flower of Life; Ghostbudsters we made the Neapolitan, and for FOL, we washed Purple Haze. That event was amazing as well- shoutout to Josey at GLEN for aligning the purchasers as the judges! Genius! We had so many people reaching out to bring on IKHCO after that, it was so incredible! It really helped put our brand on the map.

Gas & Middies: I saw your rosin art on Instagram, which is a cool concept. Any new ones?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Haha, honestly! The guys back there just randomly create it while pressing. One day they made a giant snail! Another time they made a banana. I couldn’t post that pic, for odvious reasons. You never know what your going to find!

Gas & Middies: Ghostbudsters Farm says you came up with the idea for the Neapolitan infused preroll. How’d that idea come about?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: A billboard for Ice Cream, lol! Our Hash Wizard was driving and he saw the Breyers Ice Cream billboard. He called me and asked if we could get something like that to the market, but as a pre roll! 3 flavors of flower with 3 flavors of rosin! I was like, “hell yeah, let’s figure it out!” That had to be one of my favorite R&D sessions ever! Then we hit up Chris to see if he wanted to collab for the top shelf. (I’m a super fan of Ghostbudsters flower and we love making fun collabs together!). I kid you not, in less than a week we produced a batch, tested, labeled, packaged and send the units off to Top Shelf. And then we won first place! Our Neapolitans are all hand packed and the flavors are individually selected for taste, high, and flower color. Those color breaks help make it what it is; a Neapolitan!

Gas & Middies: How do you feel about the current state of rosin in Michigan?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: Honestly, I am feeling good!!! It seems like as the market matures, consumers are realizing the power of terpenes and are making decision based on quality instead of chasing the cheap distillate highs. Rosin is so cost prohibitive for many people, and that’s why we try to bridge that gap. And as we bring education to the market, we find more consumers willing to spend money on quality.

Gas & Middies: Any other collaborations slated for the future?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: So many collabs are coming! We just dropped our True North Rosin gummies collab, we just did another collab with Slammers, and Ghostbudsters and I are always dreaming up big projects! We have fresh drops coming in the coming weeks with True Organics, Lyra, and Northern Connections. The team and I really believe that working with other cultivators and processors in the industry helps everyone.

Gas & Middies: Biggest misconception in the industry?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: The biggest misconception in the cannabis industry is that cannabis companies are out here profiting millions of dollars. We just aren’t! We are still a small business, and with the insane expenses, the taxes, the testing fees, the licensing fees, and worst of all, the fact that many retailers aren’t able to pay their invoices on time, it all makes it really hard to be in this business. But we would be here if we didn’t have a passion for the plant and what we create.

Gas & Middies: Any drops to look out for in the future?
Ice Kream Hash Co.: We are in a groove at the moment, and so we are dropping new flavors like every other week!

Ice Kream Hash Co.: Thank you!! It’s so cool that you do this! We are beyond excited for what 2024 holds for Ice Kream Hash! We’ve been hard at work, both literally and figuratively, planting the seeds for a beautiful year. We appreciate the spotlight on our brand!

Superboof

I know a lot of you have been waiting. The time has come for Superboof! A cultivar that has made its name already in its short time around the block(berry hehe weed joke). This cut doesn’t disappoint. Candied orange terps are to be expected in force. The effects from this one are truly special as well. From Blockberry to Superboof

Superboof is a strain that goes by two names.

In California, Blockhead Buds crossed Black Cherry Punch & Tropicana Cookies and dubbed it: Blockberry as a play on their name. They are also the creators of the strain Halle Berry, that Ghostbudsters Farm is known for growing.

Later a Michigan grower by the name of Mobile Jay selected a variety of this and called it: Superboof.

So you might see both names floating around.

This is Superboof!

It’s bright, it’s fresh, it’s tropical fruit.

Even in the cold of winter, this brings you summer vibes.

The smell brings you to the beach. The taste is a sweet citrus that leans towards a grapefruit for me.

The gas lifts the citrus into something special!

Bright luscious colors match the smell. My only criticism is that the consistency could be just a little bit more moist (giggity).

Ice Kream Hash Co. did a great job of taking this staple and doing it justice in rosin form.
